Oh, no! I still haven't backed everything up from that site! I guess it'll have to stay up for another year or so. *searches for a credit card*

Re: aersia news
Also, about the new site, I already have a basic story set up with names of character classes, equipment, and various monsters. I can't really do anything else unless I'm set on a platform on which to develop the game. So far, there are no MMORPG development platforms for phpBB3 other than the ones still being developed(and they're being developed excruciatingly slowly).
There are a few tools out there to create a stand-alone MMORPG, but I'd like to have it browser-based so as to integrate the forums with the game.

Re: aersia news
Actually, scrap this entirely. I'd need a dedicated server to run it on, which means I'd have to pay an additional $20/month. Yeah, I'm definitely not doing that. I should just expand my Java knowledge so I could create my own browser-based MMORPG from scratch, sort of like RuneScape.Cats777 wrote:There are a few tools out there to create a stand-alone MMORPG, but I'd like to have it browser-based so as to integrate the forums with the game.
Does anyone know how long it took the creator to finish the first public version of RS?

Re: aersia news
Not entirely sure (since Runescape was rewritten twice before it's official release), but I would say two or three years at the least.

Re: aersia news
I have decided to use Java as my main platform. I will study Java as much as I can whenever I have time. I'm learning two other languages this semester, so it may get confusing. Since I'm aiming for epic battles with player-trained NPC armies, I've decided to have the game look completely like pixel art and isometric.
Like this:
That means north will be pointing to the top-right, and most roads or paths are gonna be diagonal. It looks better than non-isometric.
Comparison:
Since the game is no longer phpBB3-based, the forums can be opened.

That's pretty cool. What languages are you learning?

Re: aersia news
I'm thinking of opening the forums. It's practically done. Actually, it's been done for nearly a year. The only problem is administrating it. There are too many things on my mind that I have to get done this semester. I'm already working on a program in VB.NET that encrypts text using various algorithms that you can select. It's for my first demonstration in class. My second, and final demonstration would be a turn-based RPG. I already have the graphics, the movement system, and the transition to the battle sequence done. I still have to develop the battle system, leveling system, and equipment system. I'm gonna try to go all-out with this.
(VB.NET is the easiest language ever made.)

Re: aersia news
I think I'll post some screenshots of the new board.
Here are the forums. Check out the dates on some of the posts, haha. The Music Exchange is basically meant to be a replacement for the Music Online back in CC. In that particular forum, people can upload or post some music for others.
Here's me testing out the features. 80% of the entire style was done by me. I combined several phpBB2 templates, changed a bit of everything, and converted it to phpBB3 using the subSilver2 style(phpBB3 calls them styles instead of templates) as a base. Since all the code is based on a default style, installing new mods would be easier. For those familiar with phpBB2 and 3, the code layouts for them are completely different, so I had to meticulously check every line of the style to make sure it looked just like the phpBB2 version.
Here are some of the smilies. All custom-made by me.
Last but not least, here's the arcade. There are more games to come! So many, that I may remove games that are rated low in order to make space for even more games.
